Minerals grow inside the cavities of the Cleoniceras chambers, mineralised during the process of fossilisation due to the environments conditions of gases and heat which encourage the minerals to fill the internal chambers. Some of these chambers are not fully solid with the quartz and calcites this is due to a disturbance, at some point something interrupted the growth cycle, this could have been movement in the sediments where the fossil once lay or a fault in the fossil beds allowing oxygen to enter the mineral, in turn altering the atmospheric conditions, affecting the advancement of mineral growth.
