Cambropallas Tellesto Trilobite 252mm

£562.00 GBP

A rustic Cambropallas tellesto trilobite measuring 252mm, with a natural seamline of Iron oxide concentrations, has allowed for such a wondrous result of colour pallettes here, due to iron oxide limonite within the limstone, these minerals have been absored for many millenia, concentrated along the cephalic margins, thoracic and pygidial pleural spines and articulating lobes of the thorax and these areas of the carapace or exoskeleton were characterized by a tight fold called the doublure.

The three-dimensional exoskeleton of the arthropod displaying every segment of the thorax, the cephalon (head) and pygidium (tail). The axis lobe running the length of the body from the cephalon to the pygidium raised in a dorsal keel fashion, the eye covers clearly protrude up from cephalon, each plural lobe complete and very well defined down to the pygidium.

Topical Note: This type of Moroccan trilobite plate is susceptible to forgery by unscrupulous Moroccan sellers, these copies are prolific in the fossil marketplace in Africa and the rest of the world. Because of the nature of the limestone, which is very forgiving, replicas cast from original fossil trilobites have been manufactured in the past. Also, pieces of partially surviving trilobites are stuck together to appear as one original repaired trilobite, covered with reddish iron powder, excavated from the originating fossil beds concealing any break-lines when the reconstructed plates are built up. A competent reconstruction can be challenging to detect to the layperson. Every fossil from our website thefossilstore.com comes with a firm guarantee of authenticity which can be verified. However, it is often the case that complete specimens are excavated in pieces and reconstructed back to the original articulated state. This is very much an accepted part of fossicking, accepted by scientific bodies and museum services, the ratio can be as high as ninety per cent of fossils discovered are reconstructed. Only a small number come out of the fossil bed completely unaffected.
