LIFETIME warranty

Relax, THE FOSSIL STORE™ has all your items covered!

COA // Lifetime Guarantee

All THE FOSSIL STORE™ products described within our online shop, popup shops and exhibitions are accompanied with a ‘Certificate of Authenticity’ document. This is THE FOSSIL STORE™ guarantee to you, the purchaser of the authenticity attribution, origin, age and genus/type and description. This is your personal assurance that we have sold you what has been illustrated and described. We catalogue each sale enabling us to identify any historic item. Without THE FOSSIL STORE™ ‘Certificate of Authenticity’ the value of your item may depreciate. Similar to a bond, this is our money back guarantee that the item you purchase is a genuine fossil or mineral of natural history. This is also in line with our website terms and conditions and descriptions and is your personal assurance of the guaranteed attribution that THE FOSSIL STORE™ has supplied to you, the purchaser, an authentic and natural product as described.

COA // Certificates Of Authenticity

In issuing the C.O.A. (Certificate of Authenticity) document, acts as a bond between THE FOSSIL STORE™ (the seller) and you (the buyer) and original client, we guarantee accurate information and authenticity of your new product. This will also include the provenance for each product, as seen on our website for the relative product category. This document may be used for insurance purposes at any time in the future by you (the client), accompanied with the original invoice provided by us, (THE FOSSIL STORE™).

The certificate of authenticity is the accurate description of your purchased item. The authentication lists the region of the find, the age, type and is signed by a representative of THE FOSSIL STORE™. We offer this assurance to provide comfort in knowing all our products are genuine, authentic specimens excavated from around the world by qualified professionals and authenticated by accredited museums and Palaeontologists and other learned institutions.

Restoration + Conservation

Conservation, restoration and repairs. The reality of unearthing any natural fossil or mineral is that the vast majority of specimens quite often come out of the ground in multiple sections and require further conservation. The ‘general rule’ is an acceptance of a 25% bar on restoration, if approximately or more than 75% of the element is complete, this is then considered an acceptably fair specimen with conservation.

For a correlation of this rule and when considering Museum collections, particularly vertebrate and dinosaurian specimens, the level of acceptance is much higher if only 25% of the fossil is original and 75% is not or has been cast from other known specimens, this is considered acceptable. However when considering minerals an 80% -100% unrestored state would be more in line with what is considered a good or fair condition in most collections.

Fossil repairs are almost always necessary, as a matter of course, particularly with vertebrate specimens, bone, claws and teeth type fossil material.

These normally need to be stabilised and repairs affected to any breaks or fractures caused historically in the fossil layers or during the extraction process from the ground. This is undertaken with sympathy to the originality, by a good fossil preparation laboratory, often associated with a recognised company or museum service. Under the right circumstances, we acquire projects which are prepared and restored in-house. This will be in our descriptions or requested condition reports. Some exceptional specimens require no work or stand alone without further conservation, this will be noted in our descriptions.

Legality + Cautionary Notes

THE FOSSIL STORE™ only trades fossils and associated materials that are legally sourced. Any fossils exports and imports which are currently being reviewed or have current restrictions and that may be illustrated in our website catalogue were acquired before the current regulations changed. Recent or new changes in the law of the country of origin may be applied by the country of origin from a certain date which may be post historic collecting.

For example, dinosaur eggs and nests; currently these are not legally allowed to be exported directly from China, even though within China’s borders there is a healthy selling market, at fossil shows for example, with independent Chinese traders selling eggs and egg nests etc. Like most businesses in the fossil industry, we will not deal with any business or take part in any transactions based outside of any legal guidelines. THE FOSSIL STORE™ deals solely with legally acquired fossils, some of which may have been acquired in old or historic collections some time ago and prior to any new or recent rules and legislation.

Legislation banning collecting or exporting. When dealing with fossils it is easy to find an overwhelming volume of categorical specimens on the trading markets within the fossil industry. We advise when looking to invest in any fossil, do your research in the business you are intending to make a purchase from. Many businesses in China selling reptile specimens can be more than 90% fake, fossil dinosaur eggs can also be very much over-restored, single eggs and nests shaped with random shell fragments made into eggs.

North Africa has also been known as a region of many fakes particularly in exporting fake trilobites in great quantities which have been expertly cast making it difficult to identify from a novice point or perspective. If in doubt we are always happy to help in these scenarios as we can only imagine for the purchaser, an unsettling experience, not knowing if what you have brought back from the souk, is a fossil or a resin cast within an ordinary rock nodule.

Valuations

Please note THE FOSSIL STORE™ does not certify or value third-party items unless collaborating on a project commissioned by an authority, gallery or museum where fees are applicable prior to any valuation.

Certifying third party specimens often requires a physical examination. Some fossils can be evaluated for division, probate and insurance at long distance with clear accurate photography. Accurate dimensions and provenances are required.

THE FOSSIL STORE™ provides the highest standard when authenticating and valuing palaeontological items. For further information please write to info@thefossilstore.com

Payment

PayPal offers a variety of different payment methods. You confirm that the credit or debit card that is being used is yours. All credit or debit cardholders are subject to validation checks and authorisation by the card issuer. If the issuer of your card refuses to authorise payment we will not accept your order and we will not be responsible for any delay or non-delivery and we are not obliged to inform you of the reason for the refusal. We offer the following payment methods through PayPal to ensure that shopping at The Fossil Store online Store is both secure and convenient. PayPal also allows you to pay by E-Check including the following credit/debit cards which are accepted in The Fossil Store online shop: American Express MasterCard VISA Maestro Solo The Fossil Store orders will not be dispatched until payments confirmed, validated, lawful and made in full. All prices are quoted in (£) Sterling and include Tax. All quoted prices exclude delivery charges unless shipping to the United Kingdom where postage is free. PayPal is a safer, faster and a more secure way to pay online. Your financial details are never shared and PayPal remembers everything for you, safeguarding your bank, credit or debit card details. All you need is your email address for quick, easy payment. It is free to send money in the same currency to anyone in the UK when you use your bank account or balance. PayPal uses certified encryption technology to protect your data from unauthorised access by third parties. Your order and credit card details are transmitted using the encrypted form, SSL (Secure Socket Layer) and 3D Secure procedures. All personal information is handled confidentially. To ensure that your online credit card payment is as secure as possible, using Verified by Visa and MasterCard® SecureCode™, internationally recognised authentication technology collectively known as 3D Secure. 3D Secure protects your credit cards against unauthorised use to minimise the risk of online credit card fraud. Placing your order authorises The Fossil Store to charge your credit/debit card account with the purchase amount. Payment is not taken until you accept our Terms and Conditions. In order to avoid delays in processing your order, please ensure that your name, card number, expiry date and security code are entered correctly as displayed on your card. The security code is the last 3 digits printed over the top of the signature field on the back of your MasterCard or VISA card. On American Express cards, the 4-digit security code is printed on the front of the card, to the right above your card number. If your card issuer participates in this program, you will be asked to enter an additional password to confirm your identity as the rightful cardholder. After entering your card details and submitting your order, you will be redirected to a page hosted by your card issuer where you can enter your password. If you are not yet registered for 3D Secure, you can do so free of charge in just a few steps during the online order process or contact your card issuer directly to register. Alternatively, you can select a different payment type. The password you select during the registration process is only known by you and your card issuer and is requested with every purchase.

Your Promise To Us

Before placing an order you can view and amend your order details at any time by clicking on the Shopping Cart. You will automatically be sent an e-mail confirming receipt of your order (Confirmation E-Mail) with a summary of the details of your order, which we would recommend that you print out and keep for your own records. The Confirmation E-mail does not constitute our acceptance of your order; it merely records the fact that we have received the order. You are over 18 and all information and details provided by you to us (including online registration) are true, accurate and up to date in all respects and at all times. Whilst we will do our best to deliver your goods within the delivery time you have selected with your purchase, sometimes it may take longer than expected. You accept that on occasion, it may take us more than 30 days to deliver your goods and we thank you for your patience should this occur. If you change your mind in the meantime, you have the right to cancel your order in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. In the event that we are unable to meet the original delivery time stated, we will notify you of this as soon as possible and at the same time specify a new estimated delivery time. Where you have ordered multiple goods, we may sometimes need to deliver your goods in more than one delivery. If for any reason the goods ordered by you are not available at the time you place your order, we will notify you of this by e-mail. No contract of sale will be concluded in respect of goods that are not available. As soon as the goods are delivered to you, they become your responsibility. If for any reason goods ordered by you have not been paid for prior delivery, payment will be required same-day as delivery, regardless of item quantities or whom signs or receives an order from The Fossil Store. If these terms are broken you may be liable and incur further charges. Please contact The Fossil Store if you have any queries regarding any outstanding payments.

ECOLOGI | Co² responsible

Planting trees to help our planet

3% of all THE FOSSIL STORE™ orders goes to planting trees with Ecologi, helping to recover more than our own carbon footprint used throughout our resources from fabrication processes, manufacturing and transportation of our products.

For example. 100 trees helps restore CO₂ emissions for a London to San Francisco return flight totalling 8619.80 KM, equivalent to 0.15119 KG per KM of CO₂ per person - total flight emissions for one person is 1303.23 KG [1.3 tonnes] based on UK government (GGR) greenhouse gas reports.

" Ecologi perfectly resonates with our company ethos and we couldn't be prouder to be apart of this movement "
-THE FOSSIL STORE™

THEFOSSILSTORE™ working with ECOLOGI

Our collective home is in the process of being turned upside down which is leading to strife for almost all life on Earth.

So, it helps when businesses like ours do what we can to help battle current global warming issues - reducing our carbon footprint is entirely necessary, but the transition of change is slower than the time that remains, so why not start making that change now.

The tools that we associate with fighting climate change are inadequate. What if that changed and the billions of us who care became empowered began to implement small changes?

There are enough climate solutions out there and if we all supported them, it would undo 30 years of carbon damage and as such, would avoid 1,500 billion tonnes of CO2.

And this is our opportunity! - THE FOSSIL STORE™

Fossil investment

Making the right choice, for you ≈ Paleontological fossil investments

THE FOSSIL STORE™; Seen something you like and wonder if the investment will hold. Nothing is ever guaranteed, however, where there is quality, there is reward.

If you're not sure on what to look out for or which products will hold a greater investment, if any at all or which will bring me the best return for my money? You're in the right place!

Authenticity is key - certificate should be included
Look for aesthetics - nice bedrock prep is key too
Completion; at least 95% - always aim for 98-100%
Brand - do you trust the seller? Check their reviews - alway!
Price; THE FOSSIL STORE™ has some high value items + these are unrepeatable - watch out for sellers selling cheap wholesale items for a high price, shop around and test the market. Also remember, there are good fakes out there, but an expert can always tell on closer inspection.
Minerals; did you know most minerals are lab grown! Most minerals out there don't hold the true value and most who own them, don't know this.

Always look for quality over size. No matter the market industry for your favoured specimen type.

Your first buy should always be to attain the best possible specimen which is near (if not) 100% complete. Now you're in the right place for buying but the price has increased after setting your goals high for that one genus type/specimen. So go smaller, it doesn't matter how much you have to spend.

There is in fact a vast variety of wonderful fossils out there up for the taking. It's just a matter of perception. If you don't have the funds available to buy what you want, then you can always save and wait a little longer, whether it's a year or more. Fossils do rise in price annually and sometimes these increases can be high, and this is due to localities and availability.

Sometimes, mines close, dams are built or governments lock down on their nation for export of fossils and minerals. These are all factors and it doesn't make it half difficult. But remember, It is rare for for these items to raise high in price overnight although the past 3 years of covid and now the recession, is just pushing the prices up on all specimens in the Palaeontological and Mineralogical world, as seen with all dealers.

You can always enquire with businesses, like THE FOSSIL STORE™, to see if they offer finance, a lot of businesses are adapting quickly. And like us at THE FOSSIL STORE™, it helps to break down payments.

There is a lot of up and coming entrepreneurs trying to make a mark in the industry and often match the price of a reputable business with the same specimen, size and origin, but unfortunately the quality and prep work is not as good, and they still mark the price high.

So if you find yourself confused. It is very important to locate authentic reputable fossil companies online like THE FOSSIL STORE™ throughout the world to gauge (not only quality against badly preserved and prepared specimens) price over aesthetics. When we look at any specimen, we look for something unique, something pleasing to the eye, but foremost, if the quality of any specimen is not above 90%, we won't invest. This creates a higher return rate whilst curating a faster turn around within a competitive industry.

As a footnote it is always best to not invest in any specimen that has filler restoration. Of course, almost all specimens have some restoration to a point, with less than 3% being uncovered intact and without the need of any restoration at all - this is rare!

So make sure when you hear an item has been restored, always ask if there has been any fillers implemented in to the specimen/s and what is the complete authenticity of the specimen.

If you are looking to invest but you're not quite sure what to invest in, we recommend the following: [95%+ complete as a rule]

Ammonites;
these are always a winner and attain high value when they are above the 90% marker for aesthetic and authenticity.

Trilobites; trilobites are fascinating and when prepared right, they not only look magical, but they hold value and rise in value over time.

Megalodon Shark Teeth; everyone wants a 7" tooth! Don't go there, it's not worth the money unless you have the funds and the 7" you have in mind is 95%+ complete and natural and always, always avoid "over" polished specimens.

Meteorites; yes, meteorites! Meteorites are a great way to invest whether you're shopping for Moon Rock or NWA (North West African) Meteorites.
