Cyphaspis Trilobite 45mm, this excellently preserved trilobite, instantly recognisable by its distinctive constituent parts the very globose and inflated cephalon (head), the glabella (centre part of the head), granulose or covered with many tubercles situated between spindly or stalked eyes, the eyes sited on the glabella shield, again encrusted with tubercules or postules. Behind the cephalon shield protrude long glabella genal or cheek spines again these covered with many tubercules. A single thoracic spine longer again than its whole body length stretches from axial lobe or mid thorax lobe (segment L6), the sixth segment post the cephalon, this extends towards and over the pygidium (tail shield). The genal glabella spines are finely tapered and very long, these attached to the glabella lateral border field, resemble another trilobites diadem or semi circular coronet form of crown around the glabella border, the Diademaproetus's. However the Cyphaspis here having a more elongated genal cheek spine. The specimen is exceedingly good and fine. Painstakingly cleaned and removed from the matrix, or fossil bedrock.
