Certificate of Authenticity With Certified Excellence
THE FOSSIL STORE™ is a third-generation family business, with a heritage dating to 1969 and re-established in 1992. Our longstanding expertise underpins our commitment to the authenticity and provenance of every fossil, mineral, artefact, and meteorite we supply.
All qualifying specimens are covered by our lifetime authenticity guarantee. Depending on the specimen, items may be accompanied by an A6 or A5 certification card or a formal Certificate of Authenticity bearing a unique reference number. Authenticate your specimen and preorder a certificate >

All THE FOSSIL STORE™ products are accompanied with a printed certificate of authenticity document. THE FOSSIL STORE™ COA [certificate of authenticity] guarantees authenticity attributions on your product/s, including;
Origin
Age
Genus/type
An assurance that THE FOSSIL STORE™ has provided an item with a true content that has been illustrated and described. Guaranteeing your product/s is/are genuine and THE FOSSIL STORE™ has provided an authentic item as described.
Certificates \ COA
The COA (Certificate of authenticity) acts as a bond between THE FOSSIL STORE™ (the seller) and you (the client). THE FOSSIL STORE™ guarantees accurate and authentic information, and signed by a representative of THE FOSSIL STORE™.
Restoration and Conservation
Conservation, restoration and repairs. The reality of unearthing a natural specimen is that the vast majority of specimens quite often come out of the ground in multiple sections and require further conservation. THE FOSSIL STORE™ acceptance is 95+ percent, with the majority of our items at 100%.
The ‘general rule’ is an acceptance of a 25% bar on restoration, if approximately or more than 75% of the element is complete, this is then considered an acceptably fair specimen with conservation.
For a correlation of this rule and when considering Museum collections, particularly vertebrate and dinosaurian specimens, the level of acceptance is much higher if only 25% of the fossil is original and 75% is not or has been cast from other known specimens, this is considered acceptable. However when considering minerals an 80% -100% unrestored state would be more in line with what is considered a good or fair condition in most collections.
Fossil repairs are almost always necessary, as a matter of course, particularly with vertebrate specimens, bone, claws and teeth type fossil material.
These normally need to be stabilised and repairs affected to any breaks or fractures caused historically in the fossil layers or during the extraction process from the ground. This is undertaken with sympathy to the originality, by a good fossil preparation laboratory, often associated with a recognised company or museum service. Under the right circumstances, we acquire projects which are prepared and restored in-house. This will be in our descriptions or requested condition reports. Some exceptional specimens require no work or stand alone without further conservation, this will be noted in our descriptions.
Legal Acquisition and Trading
THE FOSSIL STORE™ deals exclusively in fossils and associated materials that have been lawfully acquired and for which the relevant provenance and legal title can be established to the extent reasonably practicable. THE FOSSIL STORE™ does not knowingly acquire, sell, transfer, or otherwise deal in any material where doing so would contravene applicable legislation, regulations, restrictions, or other legal requirements. We will not knowingly transact with any individual or organisation where there are reasonable grounds to believe that the transaction or the material concerned is unlawful.
All materials offered for sale or otherwise dealt with by THE FOSSIL STORE™ must have been lawfully acquired and must be capable of being lawfully possessed, sold, transferred, imported, exported, or otherwise dealt with in the applicable jurisdiction, as relevant. This policy applies equally to materials acquired before the enactment, amendment, or commencement of any applicable law or regulation. Historic specimens and materials originating from established private or institutional collections may be traded where their acquisition, possession, ownership, and subsequent transfer are lawful under the legislation applicable to the transaction.
Please review section 2 below which can be found in our Terms and Conditions of Sale:
2. Product information and availability
2.6. Please review the product dimensions carefully and ensure that you are satisfied with the measurements provided before proceeding with your purchase. Any stylised, illustrative, or lifestyle images are for visual representation only and are intended to demonstrate the product in context. Actual products may differ in appearance, scale, colour, or proportion when viewed in person.

Gar Wall Installation Series
The Gar Wall Installation Series is created from original fossil fish specimens preserved in limestone from Wyoming’s Rocky Mountains. Dating back more than 33.9 million years, each specimen carries its own variations in form, tone, texture and preservation. The work is conceived as a large scale architectural composition, using the natural characteristics of the fossils to create the movement and density of a shoal. Our design templates establish the framework, whilst the selection and placement of each specimen determine the final character of the installation.
The Material
The fossils are recovered within their native limestone, preserving the geological context in which they formed. Each specimen is assessed for its size, orientation, markings, tone, fossil definition and overall character. The natural variation of the material is fundamental to the work. No two specimens are identical, and this variation is retained rather than standardised.
Design Development
Each installation begins with the architectural dimensions, proportions and visual requirements of the space. A scaled composition is developed to establish the movement, density and distribution of the shoal across the elevation. The design is mapped as a series of connected sections rather than a repeating pattern. Each section is considered in relation to those around it, allowing the composition to develop progressively across the wall whilst maintaining continuity throughout.
Specimen Preparation
Following selection, each specimen undergoes a controlled preparation process within the lab. The surrounding limestone is refined where required, and the fossil is prepared to reveal its natural definition. Each specimen is individually accented, with the treatment applied selectively according to the character of the fossil. The purpose is not to make the specimens uniform, but to clarify their individual form and allow them to sit coherently within the wider composition.
Composition and Grading
Before placement, specimens are graded according to tonal value, dimensional characteristics, fossil definition and visual presence. This creates a controlled range from which the composition can be developed. Direction, spacing and density are then carefully considered to establish the movement of the shoal. Changes in orientation and grouping introduce depth and rhythm, whilst tonal transitions provide continuity across the surface. The result is a composition that is carefully resolved without appearing mechanically repeated.
Large Scale Development
The design can be developed for installations ranging from approximately 21 metres and beyond, with the composition adapted to the proportions and requirements of the architecture. At larger scales, the elevation is developed progressively, with each section relating to those before and after it. This allows the movement of the shoal to continue naturally across the full surface without relying on repetition. The scale of the installation therefore does not change the underlying design language. It changes the way that language is developed across the architecture.
Installation
Once the composition has been finalised and the specimens prepared, the installation is assembled according to the approved design. Sectional planning allows the work to be managed at architectural scale whilst preserving the intended relationships between individual specimens. Particular attention is given to continuity between sections, ensuring that the movement and tonal balance established during the design process are maintained through installation.
Bespoke Development
Each Gar Wall installation is developed in response to its architecture. Scale, proportion, viewing distance, lighting and surrounding materials can all influence the composition. The design provides the framework, but the final work is shaped by the material itself. Every installation is therefore specific to its setting, with the individuality of the fossils retained throughout the process. The architecture provides the framework, the design establishes the movement, and each fossil determines the character of the finished composition.

Private Client Concierge Service
An Exceptional Standard of Care for Exceptional Specimens
At THE FOSSIL STORE™, we understand that every specimen entrusted to us represents far more than its material value. Whether acquired as a centrepiece for a private residence, an investment-grade acquisition, or a museum-quality display piece, each fossil deserves a level of attention that reflects its rarity and significance.
Our Concierge Service has been developed for our international clients, providing a discreet, end-to-end delivery experience that combines specialist handling, bespoke protection, and white glove in house placement in the UK for selected items. From the moment a specimen is restored and prepared and leaves our care, every detail is managed with precision and absolute discretion.
White Glove Packaging & Secure Transit
Every fossil presents its own unique requirements. Fragile matrix compositions, delicate structures, and substantial weights demand specialist preparation beyond conventional logistics. Each piece is individually assessed and professionally prepared using museum-grade protective materials and multi-layered packing methods designed to minimise vibration, movement, and environmental exposure during transport.
Our white glove process oversees every stage of the journey, ensuring your acquisition is handled with the same care and consideration with which it was curated. For our clients, peace of mind is not an added service, it is our standard.
Bespoke Crate Construction
Certain specimens require a more sophisticated approach to protection.
For larger, particularly valuable, or highly delicate pieces, we design and construct custom-built transport crates tailored specifically to the dimensions and structural requirements of the fossil.
Each crate is individually engineered to provide:
Precision-fitted internal supports
Enhanced foam shock mitigation
Secure transit stability
Discreet exterior presentation
Protection suitable for long-distance specialist handling
No two specimens are identical, and neither are the protective solutions we create.
In-Residence Placement & Installation in the United Kingdom
For special and selected items, the experience does not end at delivery. Upon arrival, our concierge specialists will carefully unpack your acquisition and position it on any ground level according to your requirements, whether within a private study, entrance hall, gallery space, office, or dedicated collection room.
We understand that these pieces often become focal points within an interior, and thoughtful placement is essential in ensuring they are presented to their fullest effect. Our team works with private collectors, interior designers, and estate managers to ensure each specimen is delivered with the care and attention it deserves.
Discretion, Security & Private Service - Exclusively Available Within the United Kingdom
Not only defined by rarity, but by service.
Our concierge programme has been designed for clients who value privacy, professionalism, and exceptional standards of care. Every enquiry is handled confidentially, and every delivery is conducted with discretion and respect for the significance of your collection. Whether acquiring a singular statement piece or expanding an established collection, clients may expect:
Dedicated concierge support
Specialist handling throughout transit
Secure and discreet delivery arrangements
Tailored scheduling to suit individual requirements
A seamless experience from acquisition to final placement
Exclusively Available Within the United Kingdom
To maintain the highest standards of service and oversight, our Concierge Service is presently available exclusively for deliveries within the United Kingdom. This allows us to personally oversee every aspect of transportation, handling, and installation while ensuring the exceptional level of care our clients have come to expect.

Thrilled with my purchases which made unique and interesting gifts, which were much admired and are now proudly displayed. Communication with the seller was easy. I bought some fragile items, all of which were extremely well packaged and arrived safely and on time. Great to be able to buy beautiful products, all with a story to tell from specialist, knowledgeable sellers rather than big chains these days.
