Details

Spinosaurus Rib Bone 685mm in length which is a remarkable and highly scientifically important Spinosaur rib bone from the ‘Kem Kem red beds' formation. The fine rib bone of a light tissue construction, yet study and stable post restoration and cleaning. The rib condition and surface texture is 100% natural and very well preserved. The rib has been reconstructed in a UK Lab. The term reconstructed meaning the rib came out of the fossil bed in sections as is usually the way of fossil collecting 99.9% of the time when excavating bones and skeletons. Technicians have pieced the rib back together leaving the natural joins ‘as is’ so all the bone tissues and surfaces are available for further study.

When considering the total length of a adult spinosaurus was in the order of 12 to 18 metres. The rib bone is not complete, broken off at the distal point of the rib, this rib was quite easily than one metre in length. The rib is then a remarkable find of a most renowned top predator dinosaur from the Cretaceous of the aquatic prehistoric North African period. When Spinosaurus roamed the lagoons and swamp areas of what is now modern day Morocco. Spinosaurids were quite literally apex carnivores of there domain, a huge and fearsome predator. Spinosaurus's multi-coloured sail back was supported by these huge yet lightly constructed hollow ribs. Here is an opportunity to study that remarkable theropod dinosaur in rare detail through its morphologically preserved bone.

Often Moroccan fossil diggers seal or cover over damaged or stressed bone finds with fixatives, or cosmetically coloured fillers. This can have a aesthetic negative result for any future collector or for scientific study, until at such time that these additives can be removed by a skilful technician. Cleaned back to the original bone surface. Thankfully this is usually possible in a professional laboratory using modern chemical restorers. Often the pasting over of what are assumed defects (palaeontologists, scientists and collectors find more interesting and appealing), becomes unappealing, often obvious, the fillers and additives creating more work. fortunately these field repairs can normally be undone and a good restoration and preservation can be carried out correctly.

The colour tones are subtle with soft ivory white, lightly mottled in parts by an attractive pink overtone typical of the red beds fossil depositions. A remarkable find and highly scientifically interesting for study and having good aesthetic appeal. Shortest point across the proximal to distal ends of the rib is 685mm, where the curvature outside length is a massive 815mm.
