Details

Pseudocryphaeus trilobite from Morocco prepared in the Moroccan lab using the latest technology of micro-pneumatic pens and air abrasive machines. The Trilobite is a Devonian Arthropod, a sea bottom dweller. This genus is known for its large eyes, heavy genal spines attached to the cephalon (head shield) and frilly pygidium (tail) . The Trilobite has been prepared to expose the exoskeleton (the fossilised carapace), while retaining the prostrate undulance of the invertebrate on the original matrix, fossil limestone or bed rock.

Minicryphaeus giganteus trilobite also known as ‘Pseudocryphaeus’, re-classified and re-named.

A marvellous example of the fossil process in the prehistoric world, over four hundred million years ago the trilobite an arthropod, a member of the invertebrate lineage was covered over by silts in some tragedy of Devonian life, the circumstances that led to our discoverey of its remains, the chitin carapace designed by nature made of a lattice work of calcium phosphate and other elements, which helped to preserve the ancient arthropod for posterity, is a unique occurrence so rare only millions of animals survive from the hundred of billions that lived, of these millions only a few are unearthed and presented in such a way as you see here. This fossil arthropod has endured the test of time to live again in limestone, so we may study its elements and marvel at the ancient world of the Devonian period, we can only theorise what the oceans of the Devonian must have been like, but here you can hold a piece of that time in your hands and be intrigued at the evolution of species long since lost to the ravages of time.

This exceptionally Pseudocryphaeus trilobite is quite a rarity for it's size and overall quality. The whole of the arthropod carapace is displayed naturalistically on the matrix, the nose rostrum is stoat and upwardly positioned, the thorax has the appearance undulation possibly creating the illusion the little trilobite is shovelling itself along the seabed still. The thoracic segments interestingly articulated giving a very good open view of each, the pygidium (tail), segment slightly separated, the author particularly finds this an interesting morphological attribute, while also enhancing the motivation appearance. A very good specimen type trilobite full of character and appeal.
