Carcharodontosaurus Dinosaur Tooth 90mm
A superb example from one of the Saharan carnivore predators, the infamous relative of Tyrannosaurus rex. Carcharodontosaurus saharicus is trending globally as the North African T'Rex and is regarded for its fierce teeth and immense size, more than its North American cousin, the Tyrannosaurus rex. The Carcharodontosaurus ranged from around 98,000,000 to 94,000,000 million years ago.
We are pleased to present our latest series of Carcharodontosaurus dinosaur teeth from the renowned Cenomanian-Turonian beds of the Cretaceous period dating some 100,000,000 - 89,000,000 years ago.
Condition: An Important and Complete tooth. Some life wear at the tip. The tooth enamel/dentin-surface patination is preserved. It exhibits lovely blonde hues throughout its length, with spots of red iron staining. Serrations are also excellent (with many attractive carina creases) to the distal carina and the carina. The upper labial face of the crown exhibits horizontal linear stress movement. However, the lingual face shows no similar stresses. Two, one indistinct, fossil bed stresses run laterally up the lingual face parallel [dca & ca] carina. These may have been stabilised naturally in the fossil layer with mineral deposition. Conservation consolidation has permanently stabilised all and created a stout in-hand feel—of the significant-sized Carcharodontosaurus tooth. Minerals and aeons of deposition in the Cretaceous fossil bed layer dictate the tonal pallet.
Large dinosaur teeth are prone to damage in the fossil bed, whereas, by comparison, smaller teeth often fare better. Larger teeth commonly display some degree of wear unless of rare and exceptional discoveries. Dinosaur teeth become loose and fall out in use, which ought to be considered when reviewing any tooth preservation. Often morphology of the teeth is of great interest and helps scientists understand the carnivore's life.
Measurements are taken from the mesial curvature.
