Discover the Genus, Origins + Ages on Mosasaurus Fossils

KINGDOM OF THE MOSASAURUS

All Mosasaur species dominated the oceans in the Mesozoic era, some 135,000,000 too 66,000,000 years ago. The famous mosasaur species; from the Prognathodon Giganteus to the Beaugei and Leiodon Anceps.

These prehistoric marine reptiles roamed our ancient seas, dominating the territories of all marine life with its immensely powerful jaws, preying on smaller marine reptiles and also with a taste for ammonites and nautili alike, proof is in the stomach when it comes to theorised diets of the prehistoric with much evidence left behind, quite like the sight of some famous Iqthiosaurs in museums where young have been found in the womb of such mammals.

Mosasaurus attained great sizes during the Cretaceous period, before being edged into extinction, thus allowing their forerunners to take on the oceans such as the famous sharks and cetaceans we know today. The Mosasaurs were a group of perfectly developed marine predators.

resembling a crocodilian and lizard form, huge double-hinged jaws and with skulls armed to the teeth with, literally teeth; It is rumoured Mosasaurs or certain genus types were able to unhinge their jaws outwards, much like some snakes today, enabling these magnificent beast of the sea’s to tackle larger prey in their domains.

Powering through the waters, propelled by their powerful flippers, their streamlined dynamic allowed them to move fluidly through the water, similarly to the motion of eels, in an undulating side to side movement.

However, most theorise the main movement throughout their anatomy derived from the tail, powerfully pushing them forward, can anyone have a guess just how much horsepower they would have been able to produce? Worth the thought! Moving on we have the genus, origins and age of the 3 Mosasaurs discussed in this article.
