  1. Fir Cone Halves 93mm

    Fir Cone Halves 93mm

    £992.00
Two fir cone halves once a whole extant or living fir cone, now the fossilised cone cut and polished to reveal the inner structure, the seed bearing female fir cone which displays a familiar internal structure to a modern fir cone. The ovules evolve to full maturity once the seeds are fertilised. The cone then has a period of gestation, finally at maturity the cone disintegrates falling apart and the seeds are scattered to propagate once again. Read our description below... Genus: Araucaria Mirabilis. Origin: Cerro Cuadrado, Jaramillo forest, Santa Cruz, Patagonia, Argentina. Age: Mesozoic era, Jurassic approximately 205 - 135 million years. Fir cone measurements. Height: 9.3 cm Width: 6.7 cm Depth: 2.5 cm Approximate weight: 0,407 g Learn More
  2. Fir Cone 69mm

    Fir Cone 69mm

    £722.00
Fir cones of the Patagonian highlands, the Cerro Cuadrado petrified forests, what was once Pangaea, now the continent of South America. It was reported by travellers decades ago in Argentina that Patagonian petrified forrest containing fossil trunks up to 100 metres (328 feet), in length and 3 metres (10 feet), in diameter were found scattered in desert regions. This went further to substantiate the theory that modern day sequoias have a lineage stretching back as far as the ancient Jurassic trees. Read the further description below... Genus: Araucaria Mirabilis. Origin: Cerro Cuadrado, Jaramillo forest, Santa Cruz, Patagonia, Argentina. Age: Mesozoic era, Jurassic approximately 205 - 135 million years. Fir cone measurements. Height: 6.9 cm Width: 5.8 cm Depth: 3.7 cm Approximate weight: 0,197 g Learn More
  3. Fir Cone 56mm

    Fir Cone 56mm

    £522.00
Fir cones are the embryonic capsule of propagation of the lineage of the flora of the earth, a unique occurrence of the prehistoric Patagonian Jurassic forest. The woody scales, which are actually the leaves of the cone, are slightly open or appear to be in the process of opening. The scales held the embryo seed, the new life of the forest. Genus: Araucaria Mirabilis. Origin: Cerro Cuadrado, Jaramillo forest, Santa Cruz, Patagonia, Argentina. Age: Mesozoic era, Jurassic approximately 205 - 135 million years. Fir cone measurements. Height: 4 cm Width: 5.6 cm Depth: 4.9 cm Approximate weight: 0,129 g Learn More

    Fir Cone 72mm

Fir cones hold the secrets of an ancient time, from the Jurassic fossils of Pangea the time capsule may contain exotic colours of minerals like jasper, which once surrounded the cone as it decade in sodden sediments in the primeval forrest. Flooding and the action of per-mineralisation, a silicification process, cell by cell replacement, water coursing (minerals rich) under pressure replaces the living tissue turning the fir cone to stone and can create a wonderful array of different coloured quartz, jaspers and chalcedony. That is yet the mystery within this uncut cone... Genus: Araucaria Mirabilis. Origin: Cerro Cuadrado, Jaramillo forest, Santa Cruz, Patagonia, Argentina. Age: Mesozoic era, Jurassic approximately 205 - 135 million years. Fir cone measurements. Height: 7.2 cm Width: 5.4 cm Depth: 3.5 cm Approximate weight: 0,167 g Learn More
  5. Fir Cone Halves 48mm

    Fir Cone Halves 48mm

    £222.00
Fir cone from the Jurassic forrest of the supercontinent of Pangea. Pangea formed around 300 million years ago and broke up around 175 million years ago. The prehistoric forests produced wonderful fossil fir cones along with fossil wood and fossil resins, which eventually formed copal’s and ambers. The fir cone is of this lineage. here the specimen with glorious detail of the inner structure of the fir cone can be viewed and studied. Genus: Araucaria Mirabilis. Origin: Cerro Cuadrado, Jaramillo forest, Santa Cruz, Patagonia, Argentina. Age: Mesozoic era, Jurassic approximately 205 to 135 million years. Fir cone measurements. Height: 4.8 cm Width: 4.5 cm Depth: 2 cm Approximate weight: 0,106 g Learn More
