A quality fossil bivalve, a valve shell of the Cardinia mollusc. These clams are found in the rich Frodingham ironstone of this region, an out crop of the North East of England and the Jurassic heritage coast of Doset on the south west coast of England. The vein of Jurassic fossils which runs diagonally through England and contains a rich variety of fauna and flora including these marine gems.

During the Romano occupation of Britain, the Romans mined the limestone of the North East region, now Scunthorpe. For the iron ore it contained and for the use of smelting in the production of iron, to aid the Roman empire in the further expansion of Europe.

These shells are rare to find due to closure of the quarries where they were once found. Closed for some 20 years the workings have filled with water and become impossible to work. A Highly appealing and decorative fossil suitable for collection or interior display purposes.
