Eboraciceras Carinatum Ammonite 32mm at its widest point is the fossilised shell of an ancient Jurassic cephalopod. part of the mollusc group and related to the modern-day cephalopods. The fossil ammonite finds originating from the Oaks quarry formation in the Saratov region of Russia. The village of Dubki locates the quarry which contains deposits from the Callovian and Oxfordian stages of the Upper Jurassic period. There are three regions where there is a continuous sequence of sediments in this range. Dorset in England, Provence in France and this location of the Oaks in Saratov, by the river Volga.
The fossil-bearing layers at the Oaks quarry are filled with fossil micro and macro ammonites and fauna. The quarry holds significant palaeontological formations of the Volgian time, the former obsolete time period name which defined the localised region geologically. This region has produced some remarkable and very attractive specimen fossils, particularly of the ammonoid group. The iridescence quality of the deposits denote the region.
This specimen ammonite micro conch although of small size shows very well the anatomy of phragmacone. The evolute phragmacone exhibits excellent iridescence a product of an absorption of localised minerals in the fossil bedding plane. At this location quartz heavily influences these fossil ammonoids. A well pronounced and preserved saddle in the last chamber and strong ribbing to the exterior phragmacone all go to make this a highly collectable fossil.
