Fossil Megalodon Carcharodon Tooth 6"
£9,892.00 GBP
A significantly important discovery of a 'midnight black' Beaufort County, Megalodon tooth measuring just under 6". Whilst demonstrating a high standard of preservation putting this specimen in the top 10% of best-preserved fossil Megalodon teeth in the world, the fine serrations suggest this specimen is from a younger era and estimated to be around 2,000,000 years. Renowned for being the largest, most powerful of vertebrates in prehistory, the Megalodon Carcharodon had a profound impact on the marine Miocene environment. Evident in the extraordinary discoveries of modern times from the Miocene to the Pliocene epochs (the Neogene period), preying on ancient, miniature whales (Piscobalaena nana) and large seals. Reaching a maximum length of 16 - 18 meters, approximately 52 - 59 ft and Megalodon's build was stockier than that of modern-day species. Spec Genus: Megalodon Carcharodon | Carcharias.Family; Lamnidae - Otodontidae | Order; Lamniformes.Age: Cenozoic, late Oligocene to early Pleistocene, 3,000,000 to...

Asteroceras Obtusum Ammonite 281mm
£2,342.00 GBP
The Asteroceras naturalistically positioned ammonite prepared and contained in the original limestone partial boulder, once the fine muds of the Jurassic seabed, now transformed into limestone. Discovering an ammonite of this calibre, completeness, and size, Asteroceras is a rare event. Add to this the completeness, preservation, and quality of the preparation of this uncommon specimen type exhibiting suture patterning, and excellent colours of calcite variations which have developed within the cephalopods shell and fossilised over millions of years, providing an interesting insight into the internal morphology of the species Asteroceras. All these factors put this ammonite in the top bracket of discoveries of type. Revitalising these fascinating, extinct marine animals phragmocone (exoskeleton-shell) and presenting them in a dramatic way, makes them perfect for collectors or interior designers. Ammonites are becoming increasingly more difficult to gain, particularly the best of the best, from the fossiliferous coasts of the United Kingdom. Our...

Asteroceras Obtusum Ammonite on Bronze 1.6ft
£11,842.00 GBP
A one of a kind and beautifully prepared Asteroceras ammonite is presented on our in-house bespoke designed bronze stand for a unique display and easy removal for study. Found and prepared from within the original matrix, a boulder from the once fine Jurassic layers of Black Ven Marls. Now transformed into a piece of art, discovering ammonites of this calibre, completeness, size and of this particular genus is a rare event. The preservation has been kind to the Asteroceras making it a scientifically important piece. The calcite and quartz variations contrast and intertwine around the suture patterns, developed within the cephalopod's internal structures over 189,000,000 years, providing insight into the internal morphology putting this piece in the top 5% of British Asteroceras discoveries to date. Genus: Asteroceras Obtusum Ammonite.Origin: Black Ven Marls in Lyme Regis, Dorset, England.Age: Mesozoic, Jurassic, 189,000,000 to 196,000,000 years. Longianda Termieri Fossil Trilobite 264mm
£1,642.00 GBP
THE FOSSIL STORE AES | Brass series brings you a Longianda termieri trilobite, now transformed with our elegant innovated-designed AES | Brass stands for spaces out there! The preservation afforded in the blue-grey limestone shales has left a wondrous result for this fine prehistoric fossilised invertebrate. The subtle colour palettes are created by minerals that have been absorbed for many millennia. Particularly here Copper has influenced the carapace preservation and bright green colouration to the plural spines of the right pleural lobes spines and the genal spine of the cephalon. The exoskeleton of the arthropod displays every segment of the thorax; the cephalon (head) and the pygidium (tail). The axial rings of the axis lobe run the full length of the body from the first occipital lobe to the axial ring of the pygidium and are in excellent form for this particular type. - Each plural lobe is complete and very well-defined through to the...

Fossil Asaphus Briareus Trilobite [RARE] 388mm
£3,692.00 GBP
A wonderful example of the Asaphus acadoparadoxides briareus trilobite measuring held by the custom brass mount, our classic range of specimens set into brass clasps. The specimen can be easily lifted off for study. An absolutely unique specimen with good preservation, the trilobite plate has formed nicely with care throughout preparation which has been evidently taken. A wonderful and natural specimen in such a condition elevates the trilobite to the top echelons in trilobite collecting from this location and time period. The attractive colour is from the fossil bed. Heavy minerals cause the burnt umber colouration a byproduct of the heavy concentrations of iron in the region of the fossil bed and typical of this formation. This transpires as a dusty coating of fine limestone. Giving the fossil a most recognisable signature. The dark brass colour of the mounts complements the fossils. The process of fossilisation is best achieved in an...

Fossil Cambropallas Tellesto Trilobite PR 320mm
£2,992.00 GBP
THE FOSSIL STORE AES | Brass series brings you a positive and negative Cambropallas tellesto geode measuring 320mm, now transformed with our elegant innovated-designed AES | Brass stands for spaces out there! This extraordinary specimen offers a positive and negative example of the well renowned and exotic Cambropallas tellesto trilobite.Iron oxide concentrations have allowed for such a wondrous result of colour pallettes here, due to iron oxide limonite within the limestone, these minerals have been absorbed for many millennia, concentrated along the cephalic margins, thoracic and pygidial pleural spines and articulating lobes of the thorax - all these areas of the carapace or exoskeleton were characterized by a tight fold called the doublure. The three-dimensional exoskeleton of the arthropod displays every segment of the thorax; the cephalon (head) and pygidium (tail). The axis lobe runs the length of the body from the cephalon to the pygidium, which stands up elegantly at the tail-end,...
