Gigantopygus Trilobite [RARE] 254mm

£2,442.00 GBP

THE FOSSIL STORE AES | Brass series brings you a beautiful specimen of a Gigantopygus sp. trilobite, now transformed with our elegant innovated-designed AES | Brass stands for spaces out there!

The preservation afforded in the grey limestone shales has left a wondrous result for this fine prehistoric fossilised invertebrate. The subtle colour palettes, created by minerals that have been absorbed for many millennia, are concentrated along the cephalic margins, thoracic and pygidial pleural spines and articulating lobes of the thorax.

The exoskeleton of the arthropod displays every segment of the thorax; the cephalon (head) and the pygidium (tail). The axial rings of the axis lobe run the full length of the body from the first occipital lobe to the axial ring of the pygidium and are in excellent form for this particular type. - Each plural lobe is complete and very well-defined through to the pygidium. This is a firm favourite among us here at THE FOSSIL STORE.

Condition report: A exceptional and rare type specimen, with field notes, the specimen complete through to pygidium with little conservation needed post excavation.
