An aesthetically attractive, uncommon, original and complete fossil heteromorph ammonite duo exhibiting excellent opalescent-iridescence characteristics of this particular fossil bed from the location of the Tartar region of Russia. Refraction of light plays a big part in the mother of pearl or opalescent sequence, hosting an array of attractive colours. These are influenced by the natural nacre. Chitin is the natural element within the extant shell when fossilisation takes place in the extinct animal's shell, this changes to create this unique effect of the Audoliceras shell. The nacre is influenced in the earth's crust by the mineralisation processes over a long period of time. A fine-looking Hoplitoides ammonite measuring 382mm and discovered in the heart of North Africa. This is a particularly large Hoplitoides, now placed upon our in-house fabricated bronze stand allowing the removal and study of this wonderful example. With a discuss shape, buoyant center and narrow keel we have polished the Hoplitoides ammonite for a more finished interpretation and display of the internal structure, now clearly visible and reveals a subtle soft colour palette with the chambers separated by quartz chalcedony vein lines.
