 Digging for Mammoth teeth

by fossilstore 29. August 2010 01:51

As seen on Digging for Britain last Thursday 26th August, 9pm BBC2 here a rare very early specie type Mammoth tooth, note the wide ridges of enamel on the washboard surface, this donates the early Mammoth type, later in the development of the teeth the enamel plates are closer and more numerous. Probably in reflection to the changing environment and food sources.

 Dragons,Dinosaurs and Soup

by fossilstore 8. August 2010 02:14

Villagers in central China dug up a tons of bones then boiled them in soup or ground them into powder for traditional Chinese medicine, believing they were from flying dragons and had healing powers.

Until recently, the fossils were being sold in Henan province as "dragon bones" at about 4 yuan (£1) per kilogram (2.2lbs), scientist Dong Zhiming told The Associated Press.Dong, a professor with the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese academy of sciences, said when the villagers found out the bones were from prehistoric dinosaurs they donated 200 kilograms (440lbs) to him and his colleagues for research." Until then they had believed that the 'dragon bones' were from ancient flying dragons". Soup anyone.....?
