Description

RECENTLY DISCOVERED IN MOROCCO; Rare fish sp. from the Cretaceous, Morocco. A fish of the Cretaceous era, similar to fossils found in the Lebanon, here from a recently discovered location in Morocco. The Specimen fish showing good anatomical detail overall. More work in identification to be completed. Cenomanian deposits, Cretaceous Period, Mesozoic Era, roughly contemporaneous with the famous fossil beds of Jebel Tselfat in the Lebanon. This find is in the region of Taouz,Western Desert, Southern Morocco. N. Africa. Provenance: yovanovitchi Arambourg 1954 [may be a new species: Cavin and Dutheil-1999]

Condition Report

Excellent preservation and condition. Skeletal details clearly visible, anatomically displays well, remains of scales evident in this remarkably preserved specimen fish, similar in quality to the Green River Fish. Exceptional preservation for this region, natural and attractive pigmentation of the limestone bedding plain, gives a deep mustard coloration . Favorably positioned in the limestone plate.
