Description

Fine Asaphus Kowalewskii sp. , with fascinating and remarkably preserved Elongated Eye stalks, the whole anatomy of the Arthropod displayed on original bedrock. Well detailed cephalon [head] and thorax body segments] cleaned and crisply excavated from matrix [bed rock or limestone sediments once entombing the specimen]. exquisite caramel colouration and a good size, for this genus type.

Brief history

Order Asaphida; Superfamily Asaphoidea; Family Asaphidae. The Asaphus Genus underwent some seemingly extreme adaptations throughout the Ordovician. This long eye stalked variety believed to have evolved due to changes in the oceans turbidity, which could have been for many reasons, one of which perhaps could have been an increase in phytoplankton; more probable is the ambush technique, that the trilobite may have lain in wait for prey hidden in the sediments with the tip of the eyestalks protruding.
