Description
Extremely Fine Horseshoe Crab Fossil Plaque, incredibly well preserved and complete Mesolimulus Crab, showing great detail on the original limestone bedrock/matrix. This is where the King crab stopped along the sea bed and expired. Horseshoe crabs are very rare in the fossil record because there exoskeleton was thin, and poorly mineralized, most did not survive in most sedimentary environments. retrieved from the Solnhofen limestone deposits, Bavaria, Germany. Images of one specimen from different views. A truly amazing fossil. GENUS: Mesolimulus Walchi sp. GEOLOGICAL AGE: Jurassic Period [205-135 MYA]
