Description
Rare Kosmoceras Ammonite; fully Pyritiferous Ammonite with Iron Pyrite in the internal chambers of the prehistoric cephalopod.
A very Fine specimen of few in quality and quantity. The Pyrite is a natural occurring phenomenon, caused by the depositional environment, which was anoxic, and lacking in oxygen at the time of fossilization, influencing the mineral exchange by Iron Pyrites [Fools Gold]. Iridescent Druzy Rainbow Pyrite evident in the internal chambers, Druze eloquently phrases the appearance of this amazingly gemmy and naturally occurring semi precious gemstone of micro crystals.
The Iron Pyrite on the external Shell is extremely reflective; almost like a Mirror, catching the light extremely well. The Iron Pyrite Ammonite shows great colours; Silver, Golden, and some Green and Red Tones
Specimens of this nature are Rare; especially fully Pyritized or Pyritiferous; the fossil sites/beds and the environment play a major role in the outcome of Fossil material.
